What's Happening Now
Summer 2009 — Phase 2

Because of funding constraints and the crews ability and confidence to do a great job on the main roof, we have jumped right in.

The re-roofing process started with the removal of the old broken La Luz clay tiles, and patching old nail holes.

Pictured is Martin Pizarro patching holes while Arylis Chee, David Walters, Robert Morgan and Nikona Hosetosavit remove roof tiles.

Picture here are the summer crew including Niles Caje and Bradley Davis who lent us a hand removing the roof tiles.

The next step was power washing the old and loose roof tar and old patching.

Pictured is Arylis Chee cleaning away.

Historic Building Architect, Dale Zinn spent an afternoon on the roof with us. This allowed us to work out solutions for the different problem areas and redesign some of the copper flashing, to better suit our needs.

Pictured are Dale Zinn and Martin Pizarro with Foreman Tommy Spottedbird.

Kerfs were cut to accommodate the new copper flashing.

Pictured is Robert Morgan running the saw with Arylis Chee helping to keep the cuts straight.

The next step was installing the new copper gutters.

Foreman Tommy Spottedbird and Martin Pizarro worked well together making the fit perfect and solder joints smooth.

By the end of our work day on August 28, 2009 Martin and Tommy finished installing the gutters.
