Restoration Project

The Solution

In 1998 a Restoration Committee was formed to save this cherished landmark on the Mescalero Apache Reservation. The work of fundraising began. Once fulltime work started in February 2000 the members of the Restoration Committee realized that this project provided a golden opportunity to help young adults in the community in need of employment and job skill training. It is gratifying to see the young people who have participated in this training program, twenty-two so far, gain skills and pride in a job well done that is greatly appreciated by so many people.

Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the restoration crew currently consists of five full-time workers; great progress is being made. Work proceeds on the inside walls during the cold weather months and on the outside walls during the summer months.

How is this possible?
